Proof That Modern Medicine Isn’t All It’s Cracked Up To Be
Caution – Strong Opinion Coming Up!
After being left thousands of dollars out of pocket and still in severe pain I have a very strong opinion of the methods used by practioners of ‘modern medicine’ when dealing with back pain – they suck!
Okay, so I am sure that there has been many, many people that have had success while under the care of their General Practioner or Surgeon and I realize that everyone is different and has different problems, however I also know of many back pain sufferers that have yet to find relief from treatments suggested by these health professionals.
Just to vent my frustration a little further I thought I would share with you this little snippet of information that was posted today at the StarTribune.
An estimated 33.3 million adults in the United States reported spine problems in 2005 compared with 24.8 million in 2000, according to a February study published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Americans spent $85.9 billion to treat spine-related back pain in 2005, up 65 percent from 1997.
Yet “there was no improvement over this period in self-assessed health status, functional disability, work limitations, or social functioning,” the study said.
Wouldn’t you think that with those sorts of figures being thrown around there would be some sort of measurable success rate?
I don’t know, maybe I’m being too melodramatic and things really aren’t as bad as those figures suggest but what I do know is that if I was in the U.S. I would be counted as one of the ‘no improvement’ crowd and that sucks too!
