Practical Tips For Easing Lower Back Pain
If your day consists of a lot of sitting or standing and your lower back is giving you grief these following tips will help to keep your pain under control.
Of course the most important thing to do when suffering any type of pain is to get a diagnosis from a medical professional, but in the meantime these tips will help you maintain correct posture and give you the best possible chance of getting through the day without going completely insane!
When Standing – Place one foot on a raised object. Something like a phone book or block of wood. Stand like this for 20-30 minutes and then swap legs so the other foot is raised.
This can be done all day if need be to ease back pain. Using this method changes your posture and removes the pressure from your lower back.
When Sitting – The key here is to change your sitting posture in a way that forces you to sit more upright and take the pressure off your spine. If your chair can be inclined front to rear, have the front of the chair lower than the back. Another option is to pack the rear legs or wheels of your chair so that the back is higher than the front.
It is also important to get up every hour and go for a walk. Even a few minutes of walking can ease tensed up muscles and keep your back pain at bay.
Please don’t take these tips as medical advice, they are merely tips that we were given at a back pain clinic that I attended last year and although fairly simple I still find a certain amount of relief using them when the need arises.
